For the sake of being real today's blog isn't filled with wonder memories that we as a family made today. Instead it is a tribute to my mom. The two of us have very different personalities and we don't see eye to eye on everything, but sometimes I catch myself doing things just like she does or I look down at my hands and think "Oh my gosh. They look just like my mom's."
She's one of three but it seems the responsibility of taking care of my grandparents has always fallen on her. My grandmother who is 95 had to move in a couple of months ago as she could no longer take care of herself. That alone is a heavy burden to carry, but wait there's more.
About 8 years ago my step dad was diagnosed with leukemia. He is in his last stages and is being admitted to a cancer facility this next week. I live 1950 miles away so it can be physically hard to be there at a moments notice. A person's shoulders are only so big. Sometimes we need someone to help hold us up.
I realize this weekend is Father's Day, but I would love to hear stories about your mothers, or even if you would like to express a word of encouragement to my mom during a very difficult time.
