Before I begin I just wanted to say that God's word is so timely. I love how he knows just what we need at the exact time that we need it.
"Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah: 'Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine...I have ordered the ravens to feed you there.'"
1 Kings 17:2-4
1 Kings 17:2-4
"I'm just delivering a message, King Ahab," said Elijah, God's spokesman. "A drought's is coming. No dew or rain for several more years." Elijah was a sensitive man, and we can only imagine that it was difficult to give the people this bad news. God knows us so well and knows our needs. He knew it would be hard for Elijah to do what was asked of him so He gave him a place to rest and renew his strength. God didn't scold Elijah for the time he wasted in the valley.
This tells me that God doesn't get angry with us when we take time to rest. We are not required to log in every minute of the day without a time-out. When our day has been extra busy and we are just exhausted, God doesn't reject us. This knowledge should be freeing, however, do we really get it? I mean really? Perhaps you could convince yourself not to attend a weeknight meeting, and instead sit and read a good book, sit and enjoy a good cup of tea, have a game night with the kids, or just sit outside and look at the stars.
Have you been overworking yourself? Just like God gave Elijah a time-out, you need one too. God is the one who is in control so things won't crumble if you take a moment to yourself to rejuvenate.
Make It Personal: Pick an activity that will recharge your batteries and then schedule it to make sure you do it.
