"In the beginning God created."
Genesis 1:1
Genesis 1:1
I had an amazing epiphany the other day driving to a farm with the kids. I realized that the reason I was so exhausted and run down was because I was trying to mold and form the people around me into my idea of perfection, trying to get them to go along with my vision. Basically I'm trying to do an impossible job.
I had to apologize to God for trying to build what according to my vision was the perfect life, perfect job, perfect relationships and perfect job with my human hands. I realized that by doing this I was I thought I could do a better job than God and I didn't want this position anymore. It was just too exhausting and the upkeep was too much. I decided to leave it in God's hands.
At first I thought this revelation came from no where, but after thinking about it I realized that it probably came from a Bible study that some friends of mine where doing on the book of Genesis. We learned that the Hebrew word for "create" in the first verse of the Bible is bara. This is what I call a God word. Humans do not have the capability of bara, which means to produce from nothing. Only God has this amazing capacity.
Trying to make the world that I lived in, perfect with my own two hands was just becoming too exhausting. This epiphany gave me such a tremendous relief. A weight had been take off my shoulders to be reminded that it was God's responsibility and mine was to only be obedient.
Make it Personal: Which one of God's responsibilities will you let Him have back this week? To make it real, write it down, and share it with someone you trust. Ask her to hold you accountable.
