"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream."
Jeremiah 17:7-8
Jeremiah 17:7-8
"When our children were babies, we lived in the desert (Bakersfield, California). Dust and rolling sagebrush blew across the fields around our house. However, a built-in sprinkler system kept our yard lush and green." (Webb, J., 2009, p.36) There was no need to worry when temperatures exceeded 100 degrees because we knew there was always a supply of water. We have moved away and since returned. This house doesn't have the grass but we still like to have flowers. It becomes obvious when the water lines are clogged because the beautiful flowers wither to a crisp.
As Joan says, this analogy reminds her of ones recovery from burnout. She was trying to install her own watering system in a very dry dessert. The words in Jeremiah were what gave her the hope she needed. God desires for us to live a blessed life, full of joy, not to be burned out and fried.
When we throw our burdens onto the Lord we can feel our lives slowly be rejuvenated, and our burned out spirits regaining their life. Joan held onto the fact that she would once again be full of life and fruitful; fruit that came from God, not from my own over-doing.
Make It Personal: Today when you drink your water, think about how God can irrigate your soul.
