"He gives strength to the weary...those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength."
Isaiah 40:29,31
Isaiah 40:29,31
"Caring Conscientious, goal-oriented and over-achieving women (and men, too!) are candidates for burnout." (Webb, Joan, C. p. 24, 2009) It isn't just those who work long hours at the office or have high paying jobs that can suffer from burnout. The definition of burnout is "the type of stress and emotional fatigue, frustration, and exhaustion that occurs when a series of (or combination of) events in a relationship, mission, way of life, or job fail to produce an expected result." (Rush, Myron, p. 13,1987) Do you see you or yourself in this description.
Many of us are convinced that our dedication to hard work will produce the outcome we desire. After working tirelessly we are dumbfounded when our energy, faith and excitement come to a grinding halt. We wonder if the will ever be renewed.
The answer Jesus gives us is, yes. "Though you stumble, you'll one day soar on wings like an eagle, run and not grow weary, walk and not faint. Trust Me. I'll renew your lost strength." (Isaiah 40:28-31) It may be hard to believe that all these things will be restored, but it can come to a place where you don't have a choice but to believe. Leaving it all to God takes an amazing load off our shoulders. When we stop trying to do it on our own, God takes over.
Make it Personal: Reread the definition of burnout. What part of it speaks to you the loudest. Write down an example. Making it real is a step in the right direction.
