That everyone may ... find satisfaction in all his toil-this is the gift of God.
Ecclesiastes 3:13
"Honey, you've had a busy day. Come watch the game with me," suggested my husband."
"In a minute."
Silently I added, First I've got to clean the kitchen, do the laundry and prepare for tomorrow. A minute turned into a few hours later.
Speaker Robert J. Kriegel suggests that "got to's" have become the result of a culture that demands the newest, the biggest and the fastest of everything. Kriegel writes "The Gotta's can run your life." , from his book If it Ain't Broke...Break It!"
The house has to be cleaned from top to bottom before we leave for vacation. I've gotta do one more load of laundry before I go to bed. I've gotta finish this blog post before tomorrow. I've gotta make this party better than the last. We all do it and become a growing list in our mind.
Of course there are certain things that we need to do on a daily basis. We can't just throw everything out completely such as showering, brushing our teeth, cooking meals etc. However, we need to draw a line between the shoulds and the gottas. God isn't the one placing all this pressure on us. He wants us to enjoy our lives and our work. These are God's gift to us.
Make It Personal: Name three gottas that could keep you from enjoying this coming week. Now eliminate one of those gottas-just for the next few days.
