"What I'm trying to do here is get you to relax, not be so preoccupied with getting so you can respond to God's giving. 'Don't be afraid of missing out. You're my dearest friends.'"
Luke 12:29-32, The Message
Luke 12:29-32, The Message
When we all start out many of us have great ambitions to make a significant impact in our world, but as the years pass, things happen and goals go left undone.. A friend of mine told me at one time that after reviewing their list of goals they had made years ago, she felt an urgency to complete her list.
She finds herself in the company of many people just like her. Some people feel they need to leave more money to their families when they're gone, so they burn the candle at both ends. For others who may have a service goal, they try to fill a need when they feel the need to help an organization that's not properly being run. It naturally makes sense to try harder, but unfortunately it doesn't always produce our desired outcome leaving us exhausted mentally, physically, and emotionally.
The author of "Caring Without Wearing", Carol Travilla, lists several unreasonable expectations that contribute to this dilema:
We shouldn't expect ourselves to do the impossible, but what we can do is set reasonable goals for ourselves. Realizing that our goals may be attainable can get rid of the fear. Our biggest friend and ally is God and He wants us to relax in His generosity.
Make it Personal: Did you have any unreasonable actions last week? Can you remember when? List how you can change that this week.

- There shouldn't be any limits to what I can do.
- I'm the only person available to help.
- I have the ability to change another person." (Travilla, C., 1990, pp. 50-51)
