"There is no difference. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."
Romans 3:23 KJV
Romans 3:23 KJV
We've already looked at the one type of perfectionism; striving to make everything perfect by over-doing, and that we as humans have the capability of finding perfectionism if we only work hard enough. This is just a theory, but so many of us exhaust ourselves to no end to reach this goal anyway.
Does it drive you mad when someone doesn't act the way you think they should? If we're being honest I will say that it does from time to time. Do you have a tendency to think your ideas are better that others? Do you beat yourself up when you have an unholy thought or feeling? I do. What about when you make a mistake or fail at what you are doing? I would rather be alone. Do you avoid a situation in which you could end up wrong or messing up? I definitely do.
These are the reasons I call myself a recovering perfectionist.
I can breathe when I realize the truth that God is perfect, not me. Paul wrote in Romans 3:22-23, no matter who you are we are all the same; we have all failed at measuring up to God's standards but not all hope is lost. He gives us His love and mercy. This amazing knowledge releases us to accept His mercy and rest.
Make it Personal: Take time to talk with God about what you have learned.
