"Relax, everything's going to be all right; rest, everything's coming together, open your hearts, love is on the way!"

Jude 1:2, THE MESSAGE
Consider me a hippie? Absolutely not. That would just be crazy. I am a responsible and conscientious woman. My idea of fun is school work and marking things off my to do list, so I was surprised when a life-coach friend of mine had me pretend to be a hippie while visiting me. She said it would be good for me. Normally she has people pretend to be CEO's, queens, etc, but she wanted me to envision myself as a flower child.
As she was taking me through a role play exercise, with me as the hippie, she noticed at the beginning I was resistant saying, "We can't do that", or "I don't think so". By the end of the exercise I had become more flexible to different ideas and willing to try new things.
First there was silence and then we both laughed when my friend said, "Well done hippie". This was a really simple, fun, yet very enlightening exercise. It really marked a turning point in my life. I learned to lighten up. The world doesn't rise and fall on what I accomplish or don't accomplish. I need to learn to breath, and enjoy life.
God gives us mercy, peace, and love not based on our performances. Knowing this gives me relief and rest.
Make it Personal: When you feel the tug to over-everything (over-do, over-schedule, over-analyze) try an exercise like my friend did with me. Use one of your dilemas as one of the scenarios with you as a hippie. See what happens.
