"Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord."
Romans 12:11
Romans 12:11
"Not slowthful in business but fervent in spirit" (Romns 12:11, KJV). This verse is underlined in my Bible. I detest the thought that someone might think of me as lazy, but I value the thought that someone might consider me hardworking and ambitious. I have found that I am not the only that has a perfectionist (although I prefer not to use this term) personality that uses this verse to excuse their over busy lifestyle. However, is that what this Scripture is really saying? Is it giving us freedom to over schedule our lives? I would venture to say that it isn't.
A person who is truly lazy, is so on a daily basis. I do not fall into this category, and if you are following along with this devotional, you probably aren't lazy either.
The truth is: we don't need to worry about becoming lazy when we find realize balance is necessary to our lives. We are more effective when we have taken time to rest and rejuvenate. Taking time to rest allows time for our our opportunities and gifts to develop.
It is through God's Spirit that we can learn to work with excitement, but also take time to rest without the feeling of guilt.
Make it Personal: Write down at least five gifts God has given you.
