I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I'm not sure why I am this way, but it has been quite a problem within the last 10 or so years. I discover a hobby, become consumed by it, and then begin to think of ways I can make money doing it. Does anyone else have this problem? Today I even jokingly thought to myself, "Hey, I wonder if there's Addicted to Hobbies Anonymous out there somewhere?"
I believe I started with scrapbooking. The first scrapbook I did was my wedding album 15 years ago. I ended up redoing it because the first one was pretty dreadful to say the least. I even had a facebook page trying to recruit business to do other people scrapbooks for them.
I also had my hand at sewing handbags. Well I was just starting out and quickly was in way over my head and had taken on way more than I knew how to do. So far two out of two of my hobbies were way too time consuming for a wife and mother of four.
The other problem I have is that I have to be the very best at what I do. Now granted, this can be a good problem, but it can also drive a person kind of crazy from time to time.
Now more recently I have started blogging. This is something I love to do. I get to share our stories with others, and record them for ourselves for the future. What could be better? Secondly, I have discovered the world of soap making and making lotion bars with my essential oils. This hobby is great for my family and it's not time consuming like my previous hobbies.
I took my first crack at it this weekend and the setting time took the most time. Here's what we did.

This is the beeswax, shea butter and coconut oil.
These ones were scented with orange essential oils and raw honey. I also made a batch with lavender.
The way I see it is, I'm just practicing for when I have an empty house. If I don't find a hobby now, what ever will I do with all my free time when the kids are all grown and gone? What hobbies do my mom readers do? Do you include your kids? Do you save them for "me time" or are you like me and "me time" is everyone time? I would love to hear your thoughts.
